FAQS
Find answers to frequently asked questions about Of Thread's needlepoint kits, project pouches and needleminders. Everything you need to know, in one place.
- I'm a beginner, how do I start!?!
Don't panic! It's simpler than it looks.
When cutting your thread, hold it in your non-dominant hand and pull a length that is about 10cm past your elbow and cut. Some people use a threader and some people will thread their needle manually.
The most important thing is to aim to stitch with the same amount of tension across all stitches. Don't pull it too tight but equally, you don't want the yarn baggy. This will become clearer as you go. However, tent stitch is quite forgiving so you might not notice a tight or baggy stitch once they are surrounded by all the others.
- What if I run out of wool?
We calculate the wool supply to be more than enough for each design. But if you do run out of wool (it can happen), please get in touch and we can send you some more gratis.
We recommend that you let us know what you need all in one go, as with multiple requests for more wool we may have to charge postage.
Any extra wool must be requested within one year of kit purchase.
- My finished piece is all distorted, what do I do?
The chances are your finished piece will be warped and distorted, so you'll need to 'block' it. To do this: Spray with water on both sides, place on a clean towel and pull gently into shape. Dry flat. If you have a soft gym mat or knitters blocking mats, you can pin your piece into shape which is much easier and will result in a better finish.
- Do I need anything else to create my masterpiece?
Some stitchers like to use a frame, some stitchers are happy to go free-rein. It's all up to the stitcher. A threader can also come in handy but not necessary. Small, sharp embroidery scissors are great to have.
Otherwise, everything else you might need is in the kit.
- Are your kits made in the UK?
This was an incredibly important factor for us when we were sourcing the products. Yes, predominantly they are, bar the canvas which is made by a German manufacturer.
Designed and printed in the UK, with British wool and needles. Even the packaging of the kits is from UK companies and eco-friendly (recyclable or compostable) to boot.
- Where do you ship?
We currently only ship to UK address bar Northern Ireland due to the GPSR regulations. We will be looking to ship internationally in due course.
Shipping will be calculated at checkout.
- How long does it take to ship?
All orders are processed within 2–5 business days. You’ll receive a confirmation email with tracking information as soon as your order ships.
The pouches are handmade by us so depending on stock, we may need to make to order. We will inform you of this should it be the case.
Please note: During peak times (such as holidays, shows or product launches), processing and shipping may take a little longer. We appreciate your patience.
